The next few years are central for Volkswagen with numerous hopefuls such as the VW ID.Polo and other models being launched. Here are the upcoming new cars from Wolfsburg in 2026 and 2027.
VW has ambitious plans despite, or mainly because of, the current crisis, because numerous important models will be launched in 2026 and 2027. In addition to the new electric cars, facelifts of the popular combustion engine models are also planned. We'll tell you what the manufacturer is planning.
The focus is clearly on electric cars. If you are interested in a VW in general, the manufacturer already has a few models on offer.
VW has planned a lot of new models for the next few years, most of them electric. This means that the ID. family will definitely expand. Now, however, under more well-known names such as ID.Polo instead of the previous VW ID.2 designations.
New VW models 2026
VW ID.Polo

Now it's official: The VW ID.Polo will come. VW had presented the study vehicle in mid-March 2023 under the name VW ID.2all. The small electric car is expected to cost less than 25,000 euros and be equipped with all kinds of the latest technologies. Now we have the first official prototype pictures of the electric small car. The presentation of the small car is expected in 2025, whether the market launch will come then is questionable, Volkswagen is planning for 2026.
VW ID.Cross

In addition to the small car, there will also be an SUV variant of the ID.Polo. We got more details about the VW ID.Cross on September 7 at the IAA 2025 in Munich. The SUV is scheduled to be launched at the end of 2026 and is the electronic counterpart to the VW T-Cross. It is scheduled to be launched in the summer of 2026 and we already have pictures of the Erlkönig for you.
VW ID.Polo GTI

On September 3, 2023, VW presented the electric ID. GTI concept and showed what the VW sports models will look like in the future. It will take until at least 2026 for the electric GTI, which will probably be called the ID.Polo GTI, to hit the road – but the model has already been confirmed.
VW Trinity

The Trinity vehicle project has so far only been vaguely outlined. In any case, it is intended to usher in the next generation of VW electric vehicles, with more range, less charging time and CO2-neutral production. Level 4 autonomous driving is also planned. We do not expect further news on this until mid-2026.
VW ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7 Facelift

In addition to the new ID.Polo, Volkswagen's existing ID. models will get their facelifts from 2026. In terms of design, these are likely to be based on that of the ID.Polo, which is supposed to resemble the classic look of the combustion models. In addition, there will also be improvements to the engines and batteries of the models, so that longer ranges will be possible.
VW Golf and T-Roc full hybrid
In 2026, the full hybrid for the VW Golf is to build another important bridge between combustion engines and electric cars. Until now, Volkswagen had not really invested in full hybrid technology, but now it is to work as an interim solution until electric mobility is better adopted. In 2025, the full hybrid will be used in the VW T-Roc, which should then also be used in the VW Golf.
VW T-Roc R & Tiguan R
According to reports, Volkswagen is also working on a 300 hp variant of the new T-Roc. We expect more details in 2026 and perhaps a presentation from mid-2026. If the T-Roc R comes, a more powerful version of the Tiguan should not be far-fetched either, we are curious.
New models from 2027
VW ID.EVERY1

VW has confirmed an electric microcar with the current name VW ID.1. This is to cost 20,000 euros and thus serve the affordable entry-level segment. Volkswagen has now announced that the ID. 1 will not be released before 2027. Now, however, there was a preview of the production model by the VW ID.EVERY1 study on March 5, 2025. The new entry-level electric car will probably come with 95 hp and a range of at least 250 km and is strongly based on the VW up!, which was only discontinued in 2023.
VW ID ERA, VW ID AURA and VW ID EVO

At Auto Shanghai 2025, Volkswagen also presented three new concepts that are to be released exclusively for the Chinese market. As a large seven-seater SUV, the VW ERA is intended to be an electric alternative to the Kia EV9 or Hyundai Santa Fe in China.

The VW ID EVO, on the other hand, is a close relative of the Tavascan from Cupra and the other group brothers VW ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq. However, technical details have not yet been given for the EVO.

The last of the three China-exclusive models in the bunch is the VW ID AURA. As the ID.7 equivalent, it makes some design changes to the electric sedan. In general, the three newly introduced concept models have appeared with a decidedly more modern look. It remains to be seen whether these will then also be introduced as production models in China and whether the design will also have an effect on the models sold in Europe and Germany.
